Create Server

Overview

Finally, with the help of VladimirCromwell, I managed to convince everyone to play the Create mod. This server really brought out the mechanics inside everyone, and everyone gave it a good go.

Trains

There was an extensive train network, mostly thanks to WispyDutchess, that linked everyone's bases together.

There were two distinct trains, which had similar schedules, which would sometimes lead them to conflict and derail one another! One was an elegant, detailed steam engine designed by WispyDutchess. The other was a more abstract take, a giant bumblebee built by me.

Bases

Spawn Base

Home to many at the start of the server, there was a spawn base dug into the side of a mountain.

DumbleDog's Mountaintop Abode

Once again, DumbleDog builds upon a mountaintop, to look down upon everything.

This house did come with a basement, situated far far down into the earth. It was a workshop built out of copper blocks that slowly oxidised over the course of the server's life. Inside, were Create machines like mixers and crushing wheels. There was also another lesser-known, but still just as important machine.

The elevator going down to the gallery and workshop had ready access to be tampered with, leading to many people slowing it right down, creating an excruciatingly long ride to the surface.

Gallery

There was a gallery built out of quartz, that featured many frutiger-aero themed pictures on the wall.

Chefting Machine

The chefting machine was a joint project between DumbleDog and I. It was hidden behind a false wall. The initial view of it from a first time visitor was a conglomerate of create blocks spinning and seizing in nonsensical ways, such as a saw blade that rotated in a circle instead of spinning.

There was an input depot for a player to put there item to get it "chefted".

The item would then go along a belt, and the player could follow it's journey from behind the safety of a glass wall. The item would then be washed by a series of sprinklers, blow dried by some industrial fans.

The item would take a sharp turn into another room and fall onto another belt, this one controlled by the QA officer, a chicken. The belt would only advance if the chicken decided to stand on a pressure plate in his quarters, as quality assurance is key in this stage.

Once the item made it past QA, it would be presented on another depot, but it's journey was not yet over, as this was a manual process where the user would be given the choice of 5 anonymous belts for the item to continue chefting. These belts lead into a large room with a myriad of belts leading in all directions. The player would enter through a different doorway, with trapdoors putting the player into crawl mode, and they could look through the glass ceiling to see if the belt they picked was direct or convoluted.

Unfortunately, the chefting machine was never completed and the server world files have been confirmed lost.
