Findlewood Create

Overview

Late one night, after a failed attempt at playing Blood on the Clocktower online, I was invited to a Minecraft server that had been running for a few months. Quickly I joined newfound friends and integrated into their close community. This server ran for around eight months and contained many mods, such as Create, Cobblemon and Immersive Aircraft.

The vibe of the server was friendly, but with expectations of building immersive builds. The players would play often, being around most nights, and with the proximity voice chat, it was easy to get chatting.

The Hub

The first hub was built in between Owl's and Twig's houses, which made it very convenient for me to flick to and from. It was later converted into a Blood on the Clocktower arena. The placing of the foundations took many players (mae_sim, Tw5g, inkvoiid) many hours. I was commissioned to build some bridges that led to a higher platform.

IAmPandas built a courthouse that only saw one lawsuit. mae_sim v Tw5g were opposing lawyers for the case of nameplate colours. Tw5g had billboards advertising "Better Call Twig!". mae_sim was not winning the case, trying to present the case while having loads of people whispering in her ear.

Around halfway through the server's life, it was decided that the hub would be shifted closer to everyone's houses. This decision was also probably influenced by Twig building a new base that was situated closer to everyone else, leaving inkvoiid and UltraNova as the only players on the left side of the map.

Just as the plaza had been built, mae_sim and Twig convinced players that the recently removed building were still there, and that it was a rendering issue on their end.

The Plaza

The plaza was the second and final hub built on the server. It had a large tree at the center, and contained many stores.

"inkvoiid's charcoal store"

A tree stump shaped building was built, and then left abandoned, and so Twig labelled it with a sign, letting passersby that it was inkvoiid's charcoal store. Out of protest to that, inkvoiid stocked it with bone meal, parked a sports car outside, and opened a strip club in the basement.

Club inkvoiid

Much more popular than the charcoal store, the underground strip club had vibes for days. The inside was fitted with black walls, glow in the dark dinosaurs, a bar, and a pole.

mae_sim and True_Oracle's Island Retreat

mae_sim and True_Oracle lived in a large white house on an isolated island. The house was inspired by 1930's architecture, and the island hotel from the Ghibli movie "Porco Rosso". It had many rooms, and many floors. Inside there was lots of hidden compartments and areas which made the place great for hide and seek. There was a grand greenhouse filled with as many flowers they could collect.

The Sewers

There was a sewer systems underground that lead from one side of the island to the other. Deep in the sewers was the TMNT lair, complete with a pizza box.

Underground

There were crops farms underground, that poked out the side of the island. The underground storage area was vast, and was based around Create vaults.

Pokémon Breeding Chambers

Deep underneath the island, were many manufactured sanctuaries to accommodate Pokémon breeding. They were connected via many tunnels that left the uninitiated lost and confused.

The Guest Houses

There were two guest houses, each of them building one. True_Oracle's was rated higher, because of the included bathroom. Occupants included TheHighwayOwl, BlueKoala, and inkvoiid.

inkvoiid's mountainside base

My base on the server was a rectangular castle-like building that attached to the side of a mountain. It had a carpark for planes to land, a bedroom, and various Create amenities. The interior was the least interesting part of the place, as what was outside was way cooler.

Wormz

After traversing down many flights of stairs, one of the first things you would come across is a patch of worms sticking up from the ground. The worms were between 1 and 3 blocks tall, so they mostly towered over players. I would invite people over to my base to "give a worm a face". This was because the worms were faceless, and built for the purpose to collect a unique face from each player on the server. It was really fun, and people had fun guessing who the other worm faces were done by.

SpongeBob House

I built SpongeBob's house. That's about it really. No interior.

Toaster

I came up with the idea of using create minecart contraptions with slime blocks as poptarts that would pop out of a toaster when a button was pressed. So many players were interested as to how it worked, and would jump into the toaster, knocking the minecart from the slime block and breaking the contraption. The idea was so good Tw5g commissioned me to build one at [[#The Plaza]].

Candyland

One day I decided to convert the land outside of my house into a candyland. It used different concrete powders and copycat buttons to make different flavoured ice cream floor types.
